Colossians 2:11-12
One of God’s symbols that He used with Israel to indicate that they were His is by circumcising the boys. They still do it in the Jewish culture when a baby boy is 8 days old. Paul was comparing the physical act of circumcision to a spiritual one when we get saved. I’m going to be honest, I get confused on our sinful nature. It's taught that we have one and that we don’t. Paul is CLEARLY saying that once we accept Jesus into our lives, the sinful nature is CUT away.
Why do we still sin then? I think it's because we are tempted and we fall for it. We don’t know who we are in Christ. It's easier to sin sometimes than it is to live God’s ways. (Or so we think.) God’s ways aren’t restrictive, they are actually freeing!
Baptism is another symbol, but it’s public. When we are baptized, I believe it should be fully immersed under water. There are 2 reasons for this.
Jesus was baptized by going under the water, so we follow His example.
It’s a symbol of His death, burial, & resurrection.
When we get baptized that way, we are fully following in Jesus's footsteps. I enjoy watching people get baptized, sometimes you can immediately see a change in them.
