Joshua 22: 4-5

Anytime you see LORD in all caps, it’s referencing His Hebrew name YHWH, or Yahweh as we say it. (Most of the time, I write it that way, just out of reverence.)

We see here that God kept His promise to Israel. Under Joshua’s command, they made it to the Promised Land. Joshua called the tribes of Reuben, Gad, & half of Manasseh together. God was blessing their faithfulness & rewarding it with land.

Verse 5 is a reminder for them & us.I think love means love, but I also think it means revere, as in full on AWE of this amazing being that took care of them all these years. Joshua tells them 5 things to do:

  1. Love the LORD

  2. Walk in His ways

  3. Obey His commands

  4. Hold firmly to Him

  5. Serve Him with all your heart & all your soul

While these sound similiar, they really aren’t. Loving God means just that. I know it might seem weird to love someone you can’t see, but He has done so much in each of our lives. The evidence is there that He is real & He just wants a personal relationship with us. If you haven’t felt His love for you, ask Him to show you & help you feel it. He will!
