Jeremiah 17:5-6
Just above verse 5 in my Bible, it has the title “Wisdom From The LORD”. Jeremiah was a prophet to Israel. He was set aside for God to speak to, then he would tell everyone what God said. Today God is talking about trusting humans & how that is not a wise thing for us to do. I know we can't fully relate to His example in verse 6, but let’s try.
There is barely anything green in the desert. It’s too hot and dry there. In order for shrubs to grow, they need moist ground and water. Neither of those are in the desert. So God is comparing trusting humans to shrubs in the desert. That’s pretty much a death sentence for those green shrubs.
If we trust humans ABOVE OR BEFORE God, we are in danger! Humans don’t know all or see all. Humans can have deceitful hearts with limited knowledge. Humans can be abusive, prideful, and NOT trustworthy. Do we still have to trust humans in ways? OF COURSE! What i’m saying is not before or without God. Ask God for wisdom on which humans to trust. Just don’t trust humans instead of God! He should be first in our lives and hearts. Period. Tomorrow we will write the next few verses and see what it’s like trusting God.
