1 Corinthians 13:4-7

My Bible has the title, “Love Is The Greatest” starting at verse 1 of Chapter 13. Even though our verses are referring to love as an “it”, the truth is God is love. We established that on day 1.

SO, look at these verses as if it says, “God is patient & kind. God is not jealous or boastful or proud.” I believe somewhere in the Old Testament, God Himself says He is a jealous God, so for clarification, I believe He means something different here.

God wants to be first in our lives & hearts. He loves us more than ANY human being does. I don’t think He is jealous when we put someone or something above Him. I think He is hurt when we do that. He is jealous if we worship another god instead of Him.

By attributing these characteristics of love to God Himself, it changes these verses for me. Because, truth be told, human love can’t really be this way. Imperfect humans handle love differently. Many times we wrongly let love be a person & that’s not good. People often dob’t uphold the ways these verses describe love. Therefore, we are better off not attaching these attributes to a feeling.
