Psalm 56: 2-4
David’s Psalm here is a very specific one. He was writing about the time when the Philistines seized him in Gath. 1 Samuel 21 talks about this and how David was running for his life from Saul when King Achish of Gath captured him. (This is when David pretended to be insane, so they wouldn’t kill him.)
For many years,David was literally slandered and running for his life. Saul became so jealous of him and he wanted David dead. God kept David safe & David trusted God to do so. You see, God had anointed David as king YEARS before. I’m sure that anointing and promise was always in David’s mind. Saul refused to step down, so God had to keep David safe in order to fulfil His promises and His own plans.
We can have similar issues, can’t we? God makes us a promise, but it doesn’t happen right a way. This causes us to doubt. BUT that’s where trust comes in. We can look all throughout the Bible and see people like David here, that God made promises too and KEPT. God is a promise keeper! If David trusted Him with his life while running for it, can’t we trust Him too?
