John 3: 16-17

My husband and I are currently doing the Bible Recap reading. We are in the middle of Leviticus at the moment. Just in case you haven’t read it, or you’ve forgotten about it, let me tell you one thing. I am SO thankful we don’t have to do animal sacrifices anymore! Reading the details of how & why along with which animals, dude! It’s a lot!

God’s covenant with Israel required blood to cover their sins. They were still doing all of those different sacrifices when Jesus was born. Remember Zechariah, John the Baptist’s dad, was in theTemple burning incense when an angel came to tell him they would have a son. (Luke 1:8) Jesus was planned to be the ultimate sacrifice once and for all from the beginning, but it was many many years until He was born.

In my opinion, we have become complacent to John 3:16. Maybe we need God to give us fresh eyes & fresh revelation. It’s easier for us since we have the entire Bible to read, but in the New Testament, they were living what we read. For thousands of years, they had obeyed God and done those sacrifices. Throughout the Bible we see where Jesus was always with God and many foreshadowings & foretellings of what was to come. I can only imagine how hard it was for them to realize they could stop doing those sacrifices because of Jesus’ death, burial & resurrection.

We need to pray that everyone on this planet will experience the love of God through salvation. It is the BEST love we could ever have in our hearts. God wants a personal relationship with us. No more letting the Priest do a sacrifice of repentance of our sin. We can directly to Him!
